Hi there! I am a photographer and love working in Washington State for its countless opportunities and beauty. I reside in Washington State (Spokane, WA) and have been able to see some of the most beautiful landscapes on a weekly basis. From a forest covered in lush moss with a perfect view of a mountain peak that is longing to be explored, no matter where your adventures take you in this beautiful state, there is always a chance for a photo shoot. In my blog today, I will focus more on what it is like being a photographer here in Spokane and Washington State in general.

Who am I?

Hello there, I’m Kelly, a Spokane-based photographer. I remember that moment when I knew taking pictures was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. When I was 8 or 10 years old, I got myself a tiny 35mm camera that was more of a toy than anything else. Still, I remember how thrilled I was with the final images! I vividly remember my first trip without my parents. When I was 17, I visited my uncle in France and brought myself an inexpensive point-and-shoot camera. The very dawn of the digital era was only a few years away, but film photography ruled that time. I caught myself taking photos everywhere I went of everything! I always try to bring out the emotion or beauty of what I see through the lens. Little did I know that journey would take me all over the world and one day bring me back to my hometown of Spokane! I’m so grateful to work with the natural surroundings. This area has more beauty than any person could ever hope to capture in a lifetime. I hope to share with you my creativity and my love for photography. I would like to work with you and bring your vision to life!

Why Photography for Me? 

Having been fascinated by the world through a lens from a young age, I knew it was something I wanted to pursue as a career rather than just a hobby. I have been working in the industry full-time for a number of years, and it is still one of the best things I have ever done. There is nothing like the feeling when you know you have created a lasting memory or story from a series of images. It is rare to receive such high levels of satisfaction and joy from a client, which is why you wake up early or go to bed late. It’s never easy; it does not come from being lazy or just taking pictures every hour of the day. It requires an industrious, creative soul that constantly pushes itself and strives to find new ideas and new ways to add more value at every opportunity. Working in photography, the hours can be long, dull, or exciting, but it is rewarding in ways that cannot be measured, and this is what keeps me going.

The unique landscape of Washington State

Washington State is a beautiful and diverse state, with landscapes that have been made famous by photographers, both professional and amateur, all over the world. From the rolling hills of the Palouse to the harsh peaks of the Cascade Mountains, this state has what almost any photographer is looking for. Of all the areas in Washington State, my personal favorite is Spokane, a city in the Eastern part of the state. This area has a mix of urban and natural scenery that is diverse and intriguing. For one, Spokane’s downtown sits down a small valley beside the Spokane River, with the surrounding hills putting the skyscrapers in the heart of nature. Whether you are a professional or amateur photographer looking to take amazing pictures, Washington State has many beautiful landscapes that will inspire you.

The types of photography I specialize in 

After shooting for a couple of years, I have come to specialize in certain types of work that I love to shoot. Senior Portraits has become my favorite type of work. There’s nothing better than capturing the ‘last moment’ as a student takes their last breath before entering the real world. Family photography is another favorite of mine. What’s better than figuring out a way to make a family freeze-frame a moment that will live on for generations? Would you guys believe me if I told you that Boudoir is also a passion of mine? I absolutely love being able to provide gorgeous women with the opportunity to show the world how strong and beautiful they are. Last but not least, the professional headshot. We’ve all got to have one, right? The last thing a prospective employer wants to see is a grainy, framed selfie on an upper-middle-class graduate’s mediocre LinkedIn profile. I love getting a person’s best professional self for a portable version of who they are! Obviously, these genres of photography are totally different in their own ways, but the one thing that they have in common is that I love capturing moments and making beautiful pictures.

Examples of my work and talking about some of my favorite shots

As a photographer, there is little that delights me more than sharing my pieces of work with others. The photos that I take vary. From weddings to showing someone their first smile to taking sunset photos for clients, I never fail to capture their best memories in a visual form. My favorite photo was taken at an Engagement shoot on the coastline when the sun was setting, and it made the couple shine with a golden touch as they hugged. It is a memory hard to replace as I always think of their happiness when I see that image. Another favorite of mine is of a young woman I met while traveling in Ireland; the green hills were perfect areas to take the best images. These are only a handful of the photos I have taken during my career that hold so much dear to my heart.
