The Art of Open-Field Photography
Let's Shoot!
Hey there, lovely people! As Kelly from Kelly Tareski Photography, I am super excited to share with you all about one of my favorite types of photography - Open field photography! There is just something mysterious, serene, and magical about capturing the memories of people in an open field. Every year, I get multiple requests from families, couples, and individuals who want an open-field photoshoot, and I absolutely love the challenge that comes with it. In this blog post, I’d love to share with you my experiences and insights on the challenges and advantages of open-field photography sessions.
What are you talking about, Kelly?
First things first, what is open-field photography? As the name suggests, open field photography refers to capturing photographs in an open, vast, and natural environment - usually open fields or meadows, but sometimes in forests or near lakes. These types of sessions are all about natural light, natural backdrops, and a relaxed environment. One of the most significant advantages of open-field photography sessions is the almost unlimited range of possibilities. You can play around with different poses, outfits, and accessories, and the sky's the limit. Plus, open-field photography gives you a chance to be creative with colors, textures, and composition.
Are there challenges to open-field photography?
One of the biggest challenges of open-field photography is the weather. Being in an open field means that you are at the mercy of nature; one moment, the sky can be clear, and the next, a thunderstorm can come out of nowhere. It takes a lot of flexibility and preparedness to pull off a successful open-field photoshoot. As a photographer, it's essential to have a plan B in case the weather doesn't play along, such as scouting locations, bringing backup equipment, and coordinating with clients regarding rescheduling.
Another challenge of open-field photography is the lack of privacy and control. Unlike indoor photoshoots in a controlled environment, open-field photography gives very little control over the surroundings. You are working with the terrain, the weather, strangers passing by, and sometimes even unpredictable animals. It takes excellent communication skills and creativity to make the most out of these challenges. As a photographer, it's essential that you make your clients feel at ease and have fun while capturing stunning photos.
Does it have advantages?
However, open-field photography has some significant advantages. Family photoshoots, in particular, look stunning in open fields. Imagine a large family sitting in a serene field, watching the sun setting and the golden light glowing on their faces. It's beauty personified! Open-field photography offers a chance for clients to be themselves, have fun, and get creative with the backdrop. It's an opportunity for the photographer to capture the essence of the client's personality, making each photo unique and memorable.
That's a Wrap!
In conclusion, open-field photography is one of my favorite photography sessions. Despite the challenges that come with no controlled surroundings, the openness, creativity, and relaxed environment that open-field photography provides is unbeatable. As a photographer, it's crucial to have the right equipment, excellent communication skills, and excellent creativity to make these sessions successful. So, dear families, couples, and individuals, if you want to have a fun, memorable, and creative photoshoot, consider an open field photography session with Kelly Tareski Photography. Remember, it's all about capturing your memories in a natural, magical, and stunning way. Let's make some memories!
