I’m Kelly from Kelly Tareski Photography. I photograph boudoir sessions at my studio property in Nine Mile Falls near Spokane, Washington. This article explains how I approach boudoir planning, privacy, wardrobe, posing, studio choices, and the overall session process.

What Is Boudoir Photography?

Boudoir is an intimate portrait style that can be elegant, playful, dramatic, understated, or somewhere in between. Some clients choose a session for themselves, a milestone, maternity, a wedding or anniversary gift, or simply because they like this style of portraiture. There is no required reason to book and no emotional outcome that a session has to produce.

How I Plan a Boudoir Session

Planning starts with the way you want to be photographed. We can discuss wardrobe, the level of coverage you prefer, studio style, lighting, privacy, and any boundaries you want me to know before the session begins.

I do not expect clients to arrive knowing how to pose. During the session I provide direction for body position, hands, expression, and small movements, and I adjust that guidance for the wardrobe, set, lighting, and photographs we are creating.

Privacy and Boundaries Matter

Boudoir is personal photography, so communication matters throughout the process. You can ask questions, request another variation, or say when a pose, wardrobe choice, or level of coverage does not fit what you want. Image sharing and portfolio use should also be discussed directly rather than assumed.

Wardrobe, Hair, and Makeup

Wardrobe can include lingerie, dresses, robes, sweaters, shirts, bodysuits, or other clothing that fits the visual direction you want. You do not need to follow one boudoir formula.

Professional hair and makeup may be available for some sessions. If styling matters to your plans, confirm current availability, inclusions, and cost during your consultation. Doing your own familiar hair and makeup can also be the right choice.

Studio and Outdoor Options

Kelly Tareski Photography has multiple indoor studio settings with different visual directions, from lighter and simpler spaces to rustic, vintage, darker, or more stylized environments. My five-acre property also includes outdoor portrait areas that can be considered when privacy, weather, season, and the session concept make them appropriate.

Outdoor details change throughout the year, so a past gallery is inspiration rather than a guarantee that the same flowers, foliage, or setting will look identical on your session date.

What Happens During the Session?

I guide the photography while you focus on the direction we planned. A session can include camera-aware portraits, movement, quieter expressions, more structured poses, and different lighting approaches. The mix depends on the client and the final look we are building.

If something is uncomfortable or simply does not feel like you, tell me. The goal is not to force one pose or expression. It is to create a useful range of portraits within the boundaries and style we agreed on.

What Happens Afterward?

Selected images are professionally edited as part of the portrait workflow. Current image and artwork options can vary, so review the latest investment information or ask during your consultation rather than relying on an older package description.
