The Greenhouse Studio and Venue at Kelly Tareski Photography

Let's Roll!

As the founder of Kelly Tareski Photography, I've always dreamt of creating a space that embodies my artistic vision and offers a unique experience for my clients. The idea of building the Greenhouse Venue and Studio was born from this dream, a place where photography, nature, and creativity converge in an extraordinary way. Nestled in the heart of our beautiful property, this project was more than just construction; it was a labor of love, a testament to innovation, and a commitment to environmental harmony.

Conceptualization and Design

The journey began with a sketch, a vision of a space that would blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings. The unique aspect of our Greenhouse Venue and Studio is its design: half submerged, half soaring into the sky. It’s a marvel that stands four feet below ground level and stretches five feet above, creating a distinctive profile against the landscape.

The decision to use a post-frame design was intentional. It's not just about aesthetics; it’s about strength and sustainability. By incorporating heavy pressure-treated timbers, we ensured durability and a timeless look. This design choice also allowed for larger open spaces within the structure, providing an expansive backdrop for photography sessions and events.

Construction Challenges and Solutions

Embarking on the construction of the Greenhouse Venue and Studio, we faced a unique set of challenges. The most significant was integrating the structure harmoniously with the terrain, especially given its partially underground design. We had to ensure proper insulation and waterproofing for the below-ground portion, which required innovative engineering solutions.

Excavation was another challenge. We had to dig four feet down, ensuring the stability of the surrounding land. We used specialized machinery to minimize the impact on the environment. As we built upwards, the post-frame design provided flexibility but also demanded precision in execution. While aesthetically pleasing, the heavy timbers required careful handling to maintain their integrity and alignment.

Unique Build Ideas and Sustainability

The split-level concept of the Greenhouse Venue and Studio isn’t just visually striking; it's also practical. Being partially underground offers natural insulation, reducing energy costs for heating and cooling. This design aligns with our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Moreover, heavy pressure-treated timbers weren't only for structural reasons. These timbers lend a rustic charm and are treated to resist decay and pests, ensuring longevity. The post-frame design also meant less material waste and a reduced carbon footprint, further contributing to our eco-friendly approach.

Interior Design and Aesthetics

Stepping inside the Greenhouse Studio is like entering a different realm. The interior harmonizes rustic charm with modern functionality. The exposed heavy timbers, part of the post-frame design, form stunning visual accents, while their robust nature allows for high ceilings and open spaces, perfect for photography.

We chose a minimalist approach to interior design, letting the natural beauty of the wood and the outdoor views take center stage. Large windows flood the space with natural light, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. The studio's layout is versatile, accommodating a variety of photography styles and events, from intimate portraits to grand wedding shoots.

That’s A Wrap!

As I reflect on the journey of building the Greenhouse Studio and Venue at Kelly Tareski Photography, I am filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment. This structure is not just a building; it’s a manifestation of a dream, a space where creativity, nature, and sustainability coexist in harmony.

Every aspect of the Greenhouse Studio tells a story, from its unique design - partially buried in the earth, partially reaching towards the sky - to its sustainable build. It is a story of challenges faced and overcome, of a commitment to environmental responsibility, and of a passion for creating something truly unique in the world of photography.

The Greenhouse Venue and Studio is poised to become a hub of creativity and inspiration. Whether hosting photo shoots, workshops, or special events, this space is designed to ignite imagination and foster artistic expression.

As I close this chapter and look to the future, I am excited about this venue's endless possibilities. It stands as a testament to our dedication to creating exceptional, sustainable, and meaningful spaces. We believe in dreaming big at Kelly Tareski Photography, and the Greenhouse Venue and Studio is just the beginning.
