Free and Low-Cost Resources for Photographers
Let's Roll!
As a photographer, it can be tough to keep up with all the latest tools, tech, and trends that can make your business more successful. However, investing in these resources can become costly when you’re a small business owner. As someone who's been in the industry for a while, I've discovered fantastic free and low-cost resources that have helped me throughout my career. In this post, I’m excited to share them with you.
Online Learning Resources:
There are plenty of great online training platforms that offer workshops and tutorials on various aspects of photography. One of my favorites is CreativeLive, which has an extensive library of classes and workshops. They also offer free live classes for those who are on a budget. If you need to improve your skills or need inspiration, this is an excellent place to start.
Free Editing Software:
Adobe Suite is the industry standard for photo editing; however, it is costly for small businesses on a budget. Fortunately, there are free and low-cost alternatives available, including GIMP, Darktable, and Pixlr. These programs can help you get the job done without breaking the bank.
Subscription Stock Photo Resources:
Investing time and energy in stock photos can become unreasonable very quickly. Luckily, focused photography stock resources offer low subscription plans such as 123RF and Depositphotos are excellent low-budget alternatives. The possibilities are endless, and when working within a budget getting a great collection of photos is do-able.
Social Media Scheduling Tools:
Social media marketing is a fundamental part of owning a photography business, but it can be time-consuming. Scheduling tools like Hootsuite, Later, and Sprout Social can help you schedule posts and stay on top of your content calendar. By doing so, you have more time for what you do best, taking photographs.
Equipment Rentals
Photography equipment can be expensive to purchase outright. Gear such as lenses, camera bodies, lighting gear, and backdrops. Rental companies like Rentglass provide cost-effective rental solutions that offer equipment on a per-project basis. Renting equipment can also give you opportunities to try out gear before purchasing equipment to fit certain niche markets.
That's a Wrap!
As you can see, there are many free and low-cost tools to help you elevate your photography career. While investing in high-quality tools and resources can be beneficial, it’s important to find resources that can help you stay within your budget. These resources can help you save significant amounts of money and time so that you can focus on growing your business. Keep these excellent resources in mind as you go forward, and keep striving for excellence in your work.
