I'm Kelly from Kelly Tareski Photography. The Chicken Coop Venue grew from a simple idea: create a rustic, country-inspired photography setting on our Nine Mile Falls property that feels authentic rather than staged.
The structure is part working chicken coop, part creative portrait setting. Weathered wood, vintage details, barn-inspired construction, and the surrounding property give the space a different look from our indoor studios and garden settings.
The Inspiration Behind the Chicken Coop
The idea started as I looked for another way to combine photography with the country character of our property. I wanted a space that could feel lived-in and visually interesting, with textures and details that could support a portrait without overwhelming the people in it.
The post-frame style, weathered materials, old lanterns, wooden crates, and other vintage pieces helped shape the rustic look. Because it is also a functional home for chickens, the space has always needed to balance photography with the practical needs of the property.
Building a Working Portrait Venue
Building the Chicken Coop Venue involved more than creating a backdrop. We had to think through construction, animal safety, usable camera angles, lighting, and how the structure would work as part of an active property.
That functional side is part of what makes the setting different. It was not built as a temporary photo set. It is a real part of the property that can also become part of a portrait story when the session, season, and lighting are a good fit.
