The Best Season for Family Photos at Kelly Tareski Photography

Let's Roll!

Hello everyone! I’m Kelly from Kelly Tareski Photography, and I’m here to talk about the best season for family photos. As a photographer, I get asked this question a lot by families who want to have their portraits taken. The truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer, as the best season for family photos depends on different factors, such as the weather, the location, the availability of the family, and the desired theme. However, based on my experience in Spokane, Washington, I can give you some insights into the benefits and challenges of each season when it comes to family photography.

Spring:

Spring is a popular season for family photography at Kelly Tareski Photography because of the blooming flowers and fresh greens that make for a beautiful backdrop. We have over three acres of outdoor gardens with endless backdrops. However, the unpredictability of the weather can be challenging. It's best to plan your session in late spring to allow for foilage growth and more stable weather. It’s important to be flexible and have a backup plan for indoor options in case of unexpected rain or wind. The time of day is also crucial in achieving the perfect photo during spring. The golden hour, which is an hour before sunset or after sunrise, will give your photos a warm and soft glow that adds to their stunning effect.

Summer:

Summer is another favored season because of the abundance of natural lighting. The days are longer, which means more opportunities to take photos. However, the bright and harsh sunlight can be too overwhelming and can result in unwanted shadows and squinting. To overcome this, it’s advisable to take photos during the early morning or late afternoon when the light is softer and more flattering. Another issue to consider during summer is the heat. Wearing comfortable clothes and bringing enough water and shade can help make your family’s photo session enjoyable.

Fall:

Fall is a picturesque season for family photography, thanks to the colorful leaves of trees that create a warm and cozy atmosphere. The mild weather and the absence of pests and crowds are also a plus. However, scheduling an appointment during this season should be done in advance, as it’s peak season for family photographers in Spokane, Washington. It’s also important to make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the changing weather. It’s a good idea to wear layers and bring some warm clothing options. With the amazing gardens at Kelly Tareski Photography, fall family portraits are my favorite. So many amazing backdrops to choose from

Winter:

Winter may seem like an unlikely season for family photography, but it, too has its advantages. The snow-covered landscape makes for a unique and magical background that compliments family Christmas photos. However, the cold weather and short daylight hours can make it challenging to organize a photo session. Dressing in layers, bringing blankets, and booking a session during the late morning or early afternoon can make the experience more bearable. Once a year, Kelly Tareski Photography offers Christmas Mini Sessions in late November. Keep an eye out for the announcements. It's a wonderful way to get your family portraits done at a very affordable price.

That's a Wrap!

In conclusion, the best season for family photos depends on your preferences and what you’re willing to endure. Each season offers something different and unique. As a photographer, I advise families to keep an open mind and be prepared for any unforeseen circumstances. Regardless of the season, the most important aspect of family photography is to have fun and enjoy the time spent together as a family. I hope this post has given you some helpful insights.
