The Greenhouse Studio and Venue at Kelly Tareski Photography
The Greenhouse Studio is one of five indoor photography studios on the Kelly Tareski Photography property in Nine Mile Falls near Spokane. It was designed to combine abundant natural light, visible timber framing, plants, and garden-inspired surroundings in a space that feels connected to the outdoor property.
How the Greenhouse Studio Was Designed
The structure began with a concept that placed part of the studio below the surrounding grade while allowing the upper portion to rise above the landscape. Heavy pressure-treated timbers and post-frame construction give the building its strong visual character and create an open interior that can be used from several camera angles.
The goal was not simply to build another white-walled studio. I wanted a photography environment where natural materials, plants, windows, and the surrounding property could become part of the portrait without requiring clients to rely entirely on outdoor weather.
Construction and Site Challenges
Building into the terrain required careful excavation and planning around drainage, waterproofing, access, and the surrounding landscape. The timber framing also required precise placement so the structure could remain visually open while supporting the design.
Those construction choices are part of what gives the Greenhouse its distinctive look today. The finished space feels different from the White, Grey, Old Cabin, and Apothecary studios while still being part of the same KTP property.
Natural Light and Interior Character
Large windows bring natural light into the studio, while the exposed timbers and plant-filled surroundings add texture and depth. The space can work for family portraits, senior portraits, maternity sessions, couples, contemporary portraits, branding images, and other sessions when the Greenhouse look fits the creative plan.
Because light, plants, and seasonal details can change, I plan Greenhouse sessions around the current conditions rather than promising one exact appearance year-round.
Using the Greenhouse for a Portrait Session
The Greenhouse can be considered during session planning along with the other indoor studios and outdoor locations. The best choice depends on wardrobe, group size, mobility, lighting, season, and the overall style you want in the finished portraits.
