A Labor of Love: Building the Warehouse Door Garden Gate
The industrial garden gate at Kelly Tareski Photography began as a vintage warehouse door that my husband repurposed into a functional entrance and portrait feature on our Nine Mile Falls property near Spokane.
From Vintage Warehouse Door to Garden Gate
My husband has a talent for finding old materials and imagining a new purpose for them. When he found the warehouse door, he saw more than a salvaged piece. He saw a structure that could become part of the gardens and add another layer of age, texture, and character to the property.
The door was repaired, adapted, refinished, and incorporated into a custom frame so it could work as an actual gate rather than just a decorative prop.
Building the Support Structure
The gate needed to be sturdy enough for regular use while still fitting the rustic look of the surrounding gardens. The frame and supports were designed around the existing landscape so the finished piece would feel like it belonged there.
That practical construction is important because many KTP portrait settings are real parts of the property. They are designed to look interesting in photographs, but they also need to function day to day.
Using the Industrial Garden Gate for Portraits
The warehouse door gate can provide a darker industrial texture against the softer gardens, vineyard, and natural scenery around it. It can work for senior portraits, families, couples, branding images, and other sessions when the style fits the creative plan.
